Now hear this.

When I was a kid, I’d get this odd ringing / buzzing sound in my ear. I used to think it was my “super-hearing” gearing up.

It was really exciting. I figured it was warming up or maturing, and at some point it’d be full-blown and I could hear anything I wanted. Not that any of you did, but if you were to see me as a child, sitting in the middle of the floor playing with my Legos or my Brio train set, you would undoubtedly see me at some point scrunch up my face, angle my head to the side and concentrate intensely. That would have been me trying to turn the dial of my super-hearing up to 11.

This of course continued until I was probably 12, when I realized that it was no super power at all, but really more likely a side effect from sitting to close to the tv at a high volume, or listening to Axl Rose’s amplified vocals. That little epiphany made me feel so ordinary.

Still though, it would’ve been pretty cool.
