Coming to Terms

I’m sorry. I’d really rather not be writing this letter to you, but I feel it is something that I just have to do.

Perhaps I shouldn’t post this on my blog. Perhaps this is something best sent in a letter, or perhaps just not said at all.
But that just wouldn’t be right. It isn’t fair, and I’m sorry.

Perhaps I’m being selfish. I’ve though at length about this possibly. It is feasible.
But let’s be honest, you’ve been selfish too.
Demanding at times, even.

And now, it’s not that I have replaced you, it is that I no longer really have a need for you anymore.
I can find what I need from others.

It feels like this has been a long painful process.
Partially it has. But I find myself continuing to disconnect from you. I think I have pretty much ceased to care.

But in the not too distant past, you crossed a line.
I like to think of myself as a man of principles. Granted, I may not always abide by those princliples, but I do my best to.

So this is it. Don’t call me, don’t email me, don’t send me letters in the mail.
When you took from me my guidance, I felt as though it was the last straw.

It’s the principle your actions, and I know others will see what you are trying to do.

Cox, you took away my TV Guide Channel. It is nothing but an effort to migrate me away from traditional Basic Extended Cable and into Digital.
Well, I have something to say to you: No thanks.

I was happy with my simple, channel structure. But you just had to mess with it, didn’t you?
Sure, I think moving the Christian channel (EWTN) away from my Sci-Fi was a smart move, but taking my Guide channel is too much.

Cox, we’ve been together for a while now, but I cancelled my service with you today.
You have till the end of the month to leave.

I’m sorry. I don’t think I like what you are becoming.
I just can’t go down this road with you.

I guess this is goodbye.

  1. Brighthouse did the same damn thing to me @ the Guide channel and I hate them for it. I’d boot them completely but I need my friday night sci-fi fix.

  2. I am going to go for the digital package. I mean come on they are trying to move forward with the times. It almost seems as if you support the fucker who refuses to get away from dial up.

  3. What is your preferred method of ‘net access at home post-Katrina? I had Cox 5 Mbps before, but it gets more pricey if you don’t sign up for cable TV.

  4. Sonny and Jonah, Here’s the deal.

I really only have cable for sc-fi and bravo. That’s about it.
I can get my shows off of bittorrent the day after they air, at a good quality, commercial free.

    Brock:
I have my 3Mb line through bellsouth. It’s been a great line for me.

  5. And Sonny, as for your dial-up analogy, here is another one.

Let’s all I use my internet connection for is checking email. ANd I don’t even get all that email.
Why should I go broadband? All I want is one thing, and it is not very bandwidth-intensive at all.

    I just don’t need it.

  6. Dude. At least you had cable. Bastards don’t want to come by my house to hook me back up! I am running on the tin can and string method of com at my crib!
    From my BlackBerry(TM),
    Andy

  7. when it became obvious that we weren’t going to get cable back anytime soon (new install after the storm – impossible) we decided to bolt the dish to the side of the house. Thus far – I have no complants. AND tivo is only like 3 bucks a month or something when you get it thru directtv.
