Born Under a Bad Sign
January 3, 2008
I just read that not only does the Chinese Calendar have an animal assigned to it (I knew that), but that it also has an Elemental and a Yin|Passive|Feminine / Yang|Aggressive|Masculine assignment.
According to Holy Mountain, I was born in the year of the Aggressive Metal Monkey.
As a quick rule of thumb, the principles governing each element and thus the modifications they produce within each sign are:
- Metal – Fixity, strength of will, fluency of speech
- Water – Powers of reflection, sensitivity, persuasiveness
- Wood – Imagination, creativity, idealism, compassion
- Fire – Dynamism, passion, energy, aggression, leadership
- Earth – Stability, reliability, practicality, industry, prudence
Chinese wisdom sees a polarity in every element, a negative and a positive side, an essentially feminine (passive, represented by -) or masculine (active, represented by +) disposition, or in Chinese terminology, Yin and Yang. Consequently, each element is repeated twice in succession so that it presents in the first year its Yang, or masculine side, and reverses the next year into its Yin polar opposite.
Time to listen to some Dethklok.
Knock, Knock. Who’s There?

One thing I picked up in NC (besides yer moms (sorry, had to)) that I do really like was this:

There is no doorbell here, and I was thinking that next hardware store trip, I’d pick up one of them fancy wireless doorbells. I wasn’t too keen on it, but I’m much happier with this. It just suits the house better.
