Portal

If you have things to do, please skip this.
I ran across this game a few weeks ago, got hooked, and beat it. It is a 2D flash-based version of the game Portal (watch the trailer), that I can’t wait to get my hanbs on (*cough*Sonny*cough*).
So, you can play this flash version in fullscreen here. Bookmark it – it will save the level # you are on so you can pick up where you left off at any time.
Big Weekend.
December 13, 2007
As much as I hate to admit it, I think I’ll look forward to Monday, with my weekend looking like this:
Friday: Main office X-Mas party, other office X-Mas party.
Saturday: rollerderby double-header, afterparty
Sunday: Cribbage (it is extreme, yo), Saints game, Derby X-Mas party.
Busy. And I’m keeping my eyes on other football games this weekend.
Here’s what would really, really help the Saints in getting the NFC wildcard (this weekend):
Saints def. Cardinals
Chargers def. Lions
Giants def. Redskins
Bears def. Vikings (Monday night)
That’s not really so much to ask, is it? The Falcons beating the Bucs wouldn’t hurt either, I reckon.
Our Hero is Aging

There is grey in my beard. Not a whole lot mind you, but it is there. There is also (according to Bea) some on the back of my head, on the left side. I can’t see it, therefore it must not be there.
Yep, I’m getting old. If the grey wasn’t enough evidence, I present unto you Exhibit B:

What the hell? When did that growing up thing happen? That was taken at my grandmother‘s 80th birthday the other week. Melinda says that in this picture I look like “the leader of a small country”. Awesome.
For me, my favorite thing about the picture is the chair. It was the chair my grandfather always sat in in the parlor (yeah, yeah). I don’t know if his dad sat in it, but I get the distinct feeling that it has been with us for a long time. It just has that right feel – comfort. Comfort not in the terms of soft and fluffy, but of familiarity and a sense of history or belonging.
In other, younger-feeling news, I’m currently listening to Nile: Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks From He Who Is in the Water. That rates up with some of their other tracks, such as Chapter of Obeisance Before Giving Breath to the Inert One in the Presence of the Crescent Shaped Horns, or Libation Unto the Shades Who Lurk in the Shadows of the Temple of Anhur, or even Dusk Falls Upon the Temple of the Serpent on the Mount of Sunrise.
P.S. – Those are little Linux Penguins all over my tie.

Indeed, What Is a Girl To Do?

Truly, a question for the ages.
Bat For Lashes addresses the issue in terms of awesome:
Happy 21st!

On this day, in 1933, the 21st Amendment was ratified. Prohibition was ‘asploded!
So, in the immortal words of the Red Stripe advertising campaign: HOORAY BEER!
And now, a picture of a beautiful man (only because of his beer):
United Abominations.
December 5, 2007
I listened to the new Megadeth studio album, United Abominations, and haven’t been this disappointed since Risk. God that one was bad. No Vic Rattlehead on that cover, and you can barely recognize him on this one. Coincidence? I think not.
Their last studio album, The System Has Failed (2004) was pretty solid if you ask me. This? Ugh. It just falls apart everywhere.
You know, I’m not going to write anymore about this. It is just too disheartening. Dammit Dave!
In case you were wondering Dave, that re-recording of A Tout Le Monde is really, really bad.
Hiro Nakamura is an NFL Referee!

Well, not really. However, had you bee in the dome for the Saints game last night, you might think so.
On the Bucs’ last drive in which they scored the winning touchdown, and actually on that very play, the play clock stopped. Twice. I’m not sure how long both the stops were, but the were significant and certainly seemed like an eternity.
After talking to people who watched it on tv, there was no discussion by the announcers about that.
Timeclock FTL.
