So Long 8th Ward, Hello 6th!

I’ve moved. For the most part – I still have some cleaning to look forward to and a coupla bikes left, but for all intents and purposes, I’ve moved.

Goodbye Marigny, it’s been fun. Howdy Treme, I look forward to getting to know you better.

So, in celebration of a new house, I would like to present unto you my New Orleans Ward history, in chronological order:

10th, 14th, 4th, 3rd, 6th, 5th, 8th, and now back to the 6th.

Time for a shower, prescription cough medicine, and sweet sweet sleep.

In other news, welcome back Rhiannon!

Complicated Life

Clint asked me to put this up on the webternets, so without further ado, I give you “Complicated Life”. Please pass it along.

The iPod Pico

Sorry about that last post. I apparently haven’t beer posted in a while.

Anyways, I just read about a potential breakthrough in hard disk storage technology that could bump up the amount of data you can store on a chip or drive by a factor of 100. That’s pretty serious. This would mean faster data access times, significantly lower power usage, lower heat output, and I assume a smaller form factor.

That’ll be the next iPod I buy, a couple of years down the road (assuming that they are still around).

The Need for Repetition

So, forget about hanging out with part of the family, both old and new, tonight.

My friend Kat was trying to relay some bit of information to me tonight, and I apparently kept interrupting her about a name/idea for derby that I had come up with. She called me out on it.

In the short amount of time it took me to ride from that bar to my house, I reflected on said calling out.

I think that my users at work don’t realize what I (we) as admins go through on a daily basis to keep them up and running. I’m not just talking about the backup routines and systems I have set up to make sure we are hurricane-proof; I’m talking about regular day to day stuff.

Yesterday morning, I updated / upgraded a number of software packages that ended up severely breaking some significant processes already in place. I ended up going to sleep at quite a late hour (at 3am the next day), finally convinced that all was right in our little world.

I’m not really going to bitch and moan here about what a thankless job that sysadmins (can) do – instead I’ll just suggest that you randomly go up to your admin and thank them.

At the end of the day, is it really so bad to have an admin on your side?
That’s what I thought.

So, long story short, we admins have our few creative moments. Let us bask in them, as they are limited.

The Saints may have lost…

…but I pretty much win anyway:

Me and Gran #67 GRAN

I got my grandmother (the very reason I am a Saints fan) a custom jersey. I wasn’t sure what number to go with so I went with 67 – the year the Saints were formed.

The Return of the Who Dat Insurgence

That’s right kids. Today is Game #1 of the 2007-2008 Football Season. Saints at Colts.

This morning, in the wee hours of oh-dark-thirty, a woman rode by where I sat on the levee. She looked like the typical bike nerd on the levee riding at that ungodly hour. Road bike, helmet, lycra team kit, Saints’ #9 Drew Brees football jersey.

Oh yes, she wore a football jersey over her cycling jersey. By far, my favorite person so far today.

In other related news, I received word this morning that my away game venue of choice, Vaughan’s, would be cutting off the game if it cut into Kermit Ruffin’s regularly scheduled set. Blasphemy!

If this dire situation does indeed arise, you’ll see my ass pedalin’ away to the R-Bar. Fo’ reals.

On the move

At the end of the month, I will be moving out of the “temporary” apartment I moved into ~1.5 years ago. So long, the Marigny, hello the Treme.

I’ll be moving to Gov. Nicholls Street with my current roommate, the po-po. The house is a super-nice two story, newly renovated.
My friend Chris owns it – he just bought another house in Mid-City, so he, his wife, and new baby girl will be moving there.

I’m pretty excited. The icing on the cake is that the other half of the house will be occupied by Jonah’s company with whom I have been doing a lot of work for. Since the house is “staying in the family”, it will remain as the starting spot for the St. Anthony Ramblers next Mardi Gras.

*edit*
I just got a call from the current landlord (she and her husband are /awesome/), trying to convince us to stay by dropping the rent $200. I told her that it was totally a space issue, and had nothing to with them on a personal level. They really don’t want us to leave – apparently we’re as good tenants as they are landlords.
