Add a protocol to the heap.

So, I signed up for Skype, username revwillcore.

I was quite hesitant to even visit the website of a product of Sharman Networks – the creators of that spyware-riddled product, Kazaa. Sonny was really the catalyst in this one. He said it made conferring with other 3d developers much much easier. Especially the ones whose spoken English skills far exceed their written skills.
Plus, I didn’t want to keep emailing his co-worker Dancer just to co-ordinate on lunch.

For me, the kicker was SkyLlian, a plugin that allows you to use it with Trillian Pro, the king of Win32 multi-protocol messaging.
It handles my 2 AIMs, 2 ICQs, 2 Y!s, 1 MSN, and now 1 Skype account all in one tidy little program.

The one downside to SkyLlian is that it requires Skype to be running in the background. However, since the actual Skype application only has a ~7MB Memory footprint, it’s not such a big deal. And when/if Skype enhances it’s API, Trillian can manage it by itself.

So hop on and look me up. We’ll do that video/audio chat thing.
Unless you are stalking me. Then I guess I’ll see you on my way home, or in the shower.
But if you’re any good, I probably won’t see you at all.

Coming to Terms

I’m sorry. I’d really rather not be writing this letter to you, but I feel it is something that I just have to do.

Perhaps I shouldn’t post this on my blog. Perhaps this is something best sent in a letter, or perhaps just not said at all.
But that just wouldn’t be right. It isn’t fair, and I’m sorry.

Perhaps I’m being selfish. I’ve though at length about this possibly. It is feasible.
But let’s be honest, you’ve been selfish too.
Demanding at times, even.

And now, it’s not that I have replaced you, it is that I no longer really have a need for you anymore.
I can find what I need from others.

It feels like this has been a long painful process.
Partially it has. But I find myself continuing to disconnect from you. I think I have pretty much ceased to care.

But in the not too distant past, you crossed a line.
I like to think of myself as a man of principles. Granted, I may not always abide by those princliples, but I do my best to.

So this is it. Don’t call me, don’t email me, don’t send me letters in the mail.
When you took from me my guidance, I felt as though it was the last straw.

It’s the principle your actions, and I know others will see what you are trying to do.

Cox, you took away my TV Guide Channel. It is nothing but an effort to migrate me away from traditional Basic Extended Cable and into Digital.
Well, I have something to say to you: No thanks.

I was happy with my simple, channel structure. But you just had to mess with it, didn’t you?
Sure, I think moving the Christian channel (EWTN) away from my Sci-Fi was a smart move, but taking my Guide channel is too much.

Cox, we’ve been together for a while now, but I cancelled my service with you today.
You have till the end of the month to leave.

I’m sorry. I don’t think I like what you are becoming.
I just can’t go down this road with you.

I guess this is goodbye.
