function levee($canalName) { unset($home); break; }

Well, reality hasn’t set in.

I mean, I’m at work now, I have an apartment, and will buy a car in the very near future.

But getting our office all switched over has taken all of my time and mental capacity.

I reckon there will be a large and sad freak-out next week.

Ugh. Impending doom sucks.

Home Away From Home

So, I signed a three month lease on an apartment here in Houston today.

Looks like I’ll be here for a while.

Tomorrow, I look for a car to buy. Will be cheaper than a rental.

I really don’t have the capacity to write more right now. I’m just overwhelmed and dealing as I can.
Work has been crazy at best. At least I have an office here, partial to complete compensation by work, and an uninterrupted income.
This makes me feel much better about this situation.

Heaven’s to Betsy

I am in Austin right now, and okay.
I’ve been here since Friday, back when Hurricane Katrina was on the OTHER SIDE of Florida.

The plan was to spend the weekend here with Dave and Belen, then three days at our Houston office.

Well, it looks like I’ll be living in Houston for a few weeks now.
The thing is, while I do have a hurricane contingency for my office, I was totally off-guard.
And my apartment, well, lets hope for the best, and that all my gear doesn’t get wet/ruined.

I’m going to get a new phone tomorrow.
And for reference, from Monday – Wednesday, I will be at:
Hampton Inn Houston-Brookhollow
12909 Northwest Freeway
Houston, TX 77040
713.939.7100

Where I lay my head is home

It’s good to be back, even though back is ~500 miles away from NOLA.
And even though I am sitting on My Hypo-Allergenic Couch™ at Dave and Belen’s in Austin right now, it still feels right.
Still feels homey.

And the journey was, well, crappy.
My flight from NOLA was delayed an hour.
Then my flight in Houston (instead of my planned layover in Dallas) was delayed over an hour.
At least I make it a habit of not checking luggage.

But hey, a couple hours of D+B, a couple Guinnii, a glass of wine, and two pieces of pizza later, I’m all good and well.
Tomorrow will be fun. If I’d have been in a better mood today, I would have posted a write-up on my NY trip.
Soon.

And I wish I could remember where my cellphone is. :(

Fuckbeans.

I’m leaving soon for 5 1/2 days in Texas.

I have absolutely no idea where my cellphone is.
I looked in my house, my office, at 13, at Molly’s, in my bags, in the car I used yesterday/today.
Fuckbeans.

Chomps on the tube.

Chomps hard at work I actually caught the tail end of this on the tv the other night, and I want to re-post it here, thought it was a cool story.

It would seem that the city is pushing to develop a gaming industry here. Chomps, working for a (the) local game 3d company here, was feature working/playing in a story run by WWL tv.

You can read about it, or watch Sonny “work”.
And look at that messy-ass desk of his.

I think it would be cool to have this city push more tech. We are so behind.
And anything, really. Games, 3d, data pipes, whatever.
And another datapark. Preferably downtown.

Is that really so much to ask? We don’t have to be ahead or caught up.
I’d settle for a little behind, even.

Broken Hive

I have an office meeting at Commander’s Palace today (rock), so I want to go ahead and share this incident with the world, for Googling purposes.

One of my workstations at the office (Windows 2000) wouldn’t really boot yesterday.
Whether in Safe Mode, Boot Logging (which it didnt. grr.), Last Known Good, etc., it would mostly load up, flash the quickest Blue Screen of Death ever, then reboot.

I popped out the drive, threw it into another system, scandisked, defragged, and scanned for virii/malware.
All clean. Still no boot.
So, while it was in the other system, I loaded up the System Hive ( %SystemRoot%\System32\Config\system ) in regedt32, and (pay attention now) modified the AutoReboot Value in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl].
In that value, 0 = disabled and 1 = enabled.
So now I was able to boot up and transcribe the BSOD, which goes a little something like this:

STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file) :
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Weak. That part of the registry pulled a Pizza the Hut and ate itself to death.
So, I did have an old copy of SOFTWARE, but it was soo old that it was useless.
I backed up the user directories, and just formatted and started fresh.

Perhaps I should add registry crap to the daily backup routine.
Or maybe just once a week.
If/when I do, ill make sure to post it up here and share.

Bike Update, Before Tomorrow.

White Rascal Jersey So, bike update n shit.

I got some new pimp-ass cranks.
Shimano Deore XT. Hollowtech. Octalink Bottom Bracket. And what? Uh.
Installed today, with assistance from the Arms of Tim™.

Also, while in NYC, picked up this new jersey –>
Reminded me of a poster for Maurin Quina.
Same devil, different colors, different booze.
Apparently, this is from a brewery in Colorado. I like it.

I Didn’t Sleep at all Last Night…

Doo doo do do do…

Well, I’m back in the land of Humidity and Low Cost of Living.
More of a recap later, but I’m kinda messed up now.
For the past 4 or 5 nights, I haven’t been going to bed till 4 or 5 or 6 am. Been out drinking.
So, going to sleep at midnight last night, and staying asleep, was a little hard.

And the quick list of regrets from my trip:
1) Not seeing the Dana Barrett’s Hotel.
2) Not hittin Churchy‘s Bar, for fear of being lost on a land mass other than the one my hotel was one.
3) Not meeting up with Brad, because I got lost on (well, under) the land mass my hotel was on.

So, other than that, good trip. More later.
Work now.

Start Spreading the News…

Im leaving in an hour.
Fuck. One hour. Time to shower, pack.

I just got home.
I left my office at 5:30 today. Arrived at 8:30.
The prior day, I worked from 8:30am to 2:30am.
Yeah, do the math. I’m a bit tired.

Anyways, I’ll be up in NYC till Monday.
I am going to get so lost. Wish me luck.

Hooray for work-financed trips.

My hair is in pigtails again, and I believe I am the first kid on the block to have this:
